Outdoor Risk Management

Managing the Mountain: Outdoor Risk Management (ORM) in Action

Launched in 2019, the Outdoor Risk Management (ORM) Program equips patrollers with the knowledge and training to support resort operations in identifying and managing risk. This program covers key topics such as legislation, industry best practices, and hazard mitigation—along with insights into the day-to-day operations of departments like ski school, lift ops, terrain parks, grooming, and snowmaking. ORM prepares patrollers to play a proactive role in creating safer mountain environments.

Online Risk Management Course for NSP Patrollers

Take your patrolling skills to the next level with the Online Risk Management (ORM) Program—a free, web-based course exclusively for National Ski Patrol (NSP) members. Tailored for patrollers with on-hill experience, this self-paced program dives into key topics like risk identification and mitigation, relevant legislation, industry standards, and behind-the-scenes operations from ski schools, lift ops, and snowmaking teams.
